The Garrett County Sheriff's Office is an active member and advocate of the Crime Watch Program. During the past five years, Crime Watch programs have been placed into active service in several communities within Garrett County, including Mountain Lake Park, Loch Lynn, Oakland, Accident, and Grantsville.

Crime Watch itself is comprised of concerned and active citizens who are willing to become involved in making their communities a safer and crime free environment. Crime Watch works on the simple principal of neighbors watching out for neighbors. This consists of block captains, monthly meetings with law enforcement and training provided to Crime Watch personnel by Sheriff's Office personnel.
